Dune in Late Evening, Cape Cod Impressionist Sheila D. Benzer, 1988 in Dedham, Massachusetts

$299

Oil on canvas board painting of a Cape Cod dune scene by Cape Cod artist, Sheila D. Benzer (born 1963). This oil painting is in very good condition. It is painting in an impasto style that reminds me of Sam Barber another Cape artist.  There are a couple of spots where there is white and I think it was intentional-not paint flakes.  I have shown a photo that depicts what I mean. The painting measures 8" x 18" unframed and it signed in the lower right.   May be original gold frame that is in very good condition. The frame measures 12" x 20".  There is a copy of a label with the title and artist's name. Ms. Benzer knew she was to be an artist at age 5, after seeing Monet's paintings in New York City. She always believed that painting Nature in the Impressionist - plein-air - tradition was her spiritual "raison." In her work she pays homage to Nature and seeks to capture on canvas the truth of light and color as it is in nature. Henry Hensche told Ms. Benzer in 1980 that "An Impressionist (plein-air) painting done well will tell you the time of day and time of year, weather and even where it was painted as light effects change dramatically in different areas of the world." The "plein-air" style of painting attains this unique visionary truth of light and color through a simple but painstaking process of blocking the colors in and mixing and comparing and remixing repeated right on the canvas until the truth of the light effect is glowing on the canvas as it glows in Nature.
